Long Run learning experiences

I discovered that I need to pay more attention to what I am eating the night before my longer runs. I eat the same thing every morning but I think that what I am eating the night before is affect my run. Note to self, do NOT eat fiesta feta cheese dip and have a glass of wine the night before a long run. Luckily, I know where all the bathrooms are on my route! I have discovered that I like dots instead of gummy bears for my snack as I run. They are a heck of a lot easier to chew. Besides, I love them anyways and that is my excuse for eating them. I eat one dot per mile. I ate 7 dots today:). I am also going to try and get up earlier to run as well. The humidity zapped me. I need to purchase my water belt soon...my hand held water bottle only lasted 6 miles when it is hot. This is not even a fraction of the mileage I will be running when I train for the MCM! Unfortunately, I have to go to Toldeo for this belt. None of the little sporting good stores near me carry them. Lots of new things discovered today!!

  1. I feel your pain with the night-before food woes, and also the humidity! It's rough here in Virginia. But you are smart to train for it, because it'll be steamy for the MCM! Also, when you're at the running store, you might pick up some Gu Chomps -- they are great running treats! Good luck with your belt!

  2. I'm curious about "Dots". What are they?

I'm not sure it'll be humid for the marathon. Last year I ran the 10k and it was crisp and perfect weather for running. I hope we have a day like that this year.

  3. Jeremy-
Dots are a type of candy. Similar to gummy bears but not as hard to chew. I use them as carbs as I run. I read in Runners World that you can substitute the Chomps for gum drops which are less expensive. A friend of mine who runs a lot uses gummy bears but I found them hard to chew so I am experimenting. I used Chomps during my last two half marathons. I am hoping that we have a day like your 10 K! Crisp is perfect for running.
